Nowadays, Adobe Illustrator is used more and more widly to make artwork. When Altia users create designes in Altia Environment following the artwork from Adobe Illustrator, sometimes, they may find that the font in Altia Design is rendered differently than Adobe Illustrator.
The reason for this is because the font engine that is used by Altia and Adobe are different. Altia is using FreeType Font engine, and Adobe may use "kerning". The definition of kerning can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerning
If users do want to compare the font between the tools, we will suggest that users had better check with your Illustrator experts to see if it is possible to disable kerning in Illustrator. Then it will be able to have a more accurate A-B comparison between the tools.
Meanwhile, in Altia Design, there are some settings for font adjustment, users can use these settings to adjust the font to be as similiar as the font in Adobe. If these settings are still not enough for you, another possibility is the hinting use to render the font. Again, we are not privy to the internals of Illustrator so we cannot talk to the render technology used in that tool. Altia Design allows for different hinting by changing the fonts.ali file. There is a rather large comment block in the fonts.ali file that describes how to change the hinting. And a description of the different FreeType hinting settings can be found here: http://www.freetype.org/freetype2/docs/reference/ft2-base_interface.html#FT_LOAD_XXX
